And once again, today, i'm compelled to ponder upon and wonder about what "love" really is and therefore whether someone - anyone - can really control who loves whom and how.
I have, a few times, wondered whether I have really loved anyone, coz I really don't understand how one is "supposed" to feel when they "fall in love". I also wonder how the law defines love.
Is our understanding of love merely a reflection of what we see on 70mm screens? Is love all about boy sees girl, girl sees boy, a lilting melody plays and love is in the air? Is love about the arrow that pierces the heart that a little winged-cherub named Cupid shot?Either way then, love has nothing to do with the heart - the organ that pumps blood. It all originates in the mind - where thoughts sometimes stretch their languid form and sometimes come rushing one after another like super cars on a European expressway.
Is love ownership? Looks like it when people "in love" send warning signals - subtle or otherwise saying "this person is mine". Then are we saying it's not possible to love more than one person?
Is love possession? Sure sounds like it when people put caveats on each other by asking for exclusivity. But isn't love meant to break down all barriers, all shackles?
Is love a commodity? Call me around Valentine's Day!
Can love be controlled? Refer this mess-up of a law pls - http://indiankanoon.org/doc/1836974/
Moving on from my ambiguity about love and on to the horror of Section 377 of the IPC..
Interesting fact: "at one time it was a sin in the Catholic Church for one to enjoy sex..sexual intercourse...carnal intercourse - as it was only for the purpose of procreation. Hence, having sex just for fun...not for procreation was WRONG....it was against the 'order of nature'..." Little wonder then, that people born and brought up in those times were SO messed up in the head that when they grew up, they came up with a Section 377!
Interestingly also, in England - those $#%&%$# who came up with the section in the first place, under the Sexual Offences Act of 1967 buggery is no longer an offence if committed in private between two consenting adults of and above the age of 21.
By the way, looking at the definition in section 377, will it be ok for two men or two women to "love" each other and make love to each other without actual penetrative intercourse?
And again, looking at the definition ( Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal...Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section.) will half the world and its cousins be thrown into jails for foreplay???
oh, super important question - will the animal be imprisoned for life too?
